FOLSOM (CBS13) – The dynamic duo of Amber Felicio and Marissa Markelon have a lot to prove.

“It feels amazing. I have a lot of family and friends,” Felicio said.

For the first time in years, the ladies raced in the GoPro Hangtown Motocross Classic.

“They get a chance to perform in front of 25,000 people,” said David Harvey, director of Hangtown Motocross.

Not to mention on national TV.

“TV time for these girls, it gets all the exposure they need from fans to bold fan base. Corporate sponsors see them and they’re marketable,” Harvey said.

Felicio, a 21-year-old from Orangevale, is ranked fifth in the nation. But she admits it’s hard to get ahead in the male-dominated sport.

“Some men don’t like it when we’re racing just because that takes away from them,” Felicio said.

So they remain focused on their goal.

“If it’s your dream don’t stop, just keep going,” Felicio said.

Because the two know they’re paving the way for other girls to follow in their dirt tracks.

“I want to be somebody that people look up to, but I don’t expect people to know who I am,” Markelon said.

Markelon knows who she is and what she wants to be.

“I’m a full time student going to work towards my business degree,” Markelon said.

But when schools out.

“I get to live my dream.”

And both don’t plan to quit any time soon.

“I don’t foresee stopping in the near future. Even if I’m not racing pro, I’ll still be on a bike,” Markelon said.

GEICO Honda rider Eli Tomac took the win at Saturday’s race, winning the first class by 22 seconds and the second by 1:31.
